Description (last modified by jeroens) (diff)

There is a basic issue in moving from ecopath to ecospace. It is quite possible to have situations for small study areas where ecosystem support comes largely from dispersal of biomass into one or more trophic groups across the system boundary, which can be easily represented in ecopath by setting biomass import and export rates (immig and emig vectors in ecosim/space) for one or more groups high enough to support much higher biomasses of the groups that eat them than predicted by the PB values of the consumed groups.

In Ecospace, immigration and emigration across the system boundary and among cells is represented explicitly by dispersal and advection rates. But the Derivtred in Ecospace still contains the immig, emig rates from Ecopath, representing biomass that enters every cell from outside the system, i.e. from nowhere.

I tried just turning off immig, emig rates in a simple model where zooplankton needed algal import to support them, and this caused goofy ecospace behavior. Leaving the rates in also caused some misbehavior.
