Description
The stepwise fitting routine can take a long time to execute. It can be sped up by multi-threading the routine; the fitting process itself is not overly demanding

For each processor in a machine, users can now launch a separate instance of the stepwise fitting routine. Each runs on a separate core, which required some juggling with logs and data.
