    3 The instantaneous emigration rates from a given cell in Ecospace are assumed to vary based on the pool type, the groups preference for the habitat type represented by the cell, and a ‘risk ratio’ representing how the organisms in the cell respond to predation risk. Base dispersal rates are calculated based on this, but weighted based on a habitat gradient function increasing the probability of organisms moving towards favourable habitats. The mechanisms involved in this procedure are explained in more detail by Walters et al. (1999).
