error when editing multistanza makes database unable to open

Description
when I double click on a cell for a multistanza group I get the unhandled exception, object reference not set to an instance of an object error message. If I click continue, the multistanza window opens, but no graph is displayed. Then, when I save and close the model, I cannot open it anymore (get message `cannot open file...). I have rebuilt the model in EwE 5 and when I import it into EwE 6 I get the same result.
