Edit layer - trying to import wrong kind of file causes crash

Edit layer: Images

I used the Import button to import an image file. I selected a bmp file but I guess it was too big or otherwise wrong. Not knowing what came next I pressed Apply and got an unhandled exception and crash.

(this button does work when the file is the right kind)

Perhaps give the user a warning when the file is no good?
